Hey Leosquad! Singapore might have a reputation for being one of the most expensive cities in the world and honestly, that’s partly true. But if you know where to look, you can Enjoy Singapore without draining your wallet.

Having lived in Johor Bahru and Batam for a few years, I used to visit Singapore quite often. This time, I wanted to prove that you don’t need a luxury budget to enjoy Singapore without breaking the bank. From iconic landmarks to local eats, I found plenty of ways to experience Singapore like a local — and it quickly became one of my favorite trips ever. Here’s how you can do it too.

1. Enjoy Singapore with the Iconic Merlion

You can’t say you’ve been to Singapore without seeing the Merlion. It’s free, it’s iconic, and it’s one of those classic “I’m really here!” moments. Go early morning or at sunset, the view of Marina Bay is stunning.

2. Gardens by the Bay: Green Wonderland

This is one of those spots that’s magical both day and night. During the day, explore the Cloud Forest or Flower Dome if you want (there’s an entrance fee, link is on my vlog).

In contrast, the Flower Dome offers a warm, dry climate filled with colorful blooms and unique plants from Mediterranean regions, changing its floral displays with the seasons for a constantly fresh experience

But by night, head to the Supertree Grove for the Garden Rhapsody light show. It’s completely free. Just lie down, look up, and let the music and lights wash over you.

3. Enjoy Singapore Like a Local at the Hawker Centres

If you want to taste the real Singapore, skip the fancy restaurants and head to the hawker centers. My favorites? Lau Pa Sat for the satay street vibes and Gluttons Bay Makan Sutra for chill outdoor dining.

4. Cai Fan (Mixed Rice): My Everyday Way to Enjoy Singapore Food

Cai Fan is my go-to comfort food in Singapore. You just pick your rice, choose a few dishes, and you’ve got a full meal for a few dollars. Endless combinations, and somehow it never gets boring.

💡Pro-Tip: Cai Fan is a simple and affordable meal that you can enjoy for lunch everyday if you’re looking to save money.

5. Explore the Rich Heritage of Singapore in Chinatown

Singapore’s Chinatown is full of surprises, you’ll find a Hindu temple, a mosque and a Buddhist temple all on the same street.

Fun fact : In Singapore, the official name of Chinatown is actually:

🀄 牛车水 (Niú chē shuǐ)

That literally means “ox-drawn water”, referring to the old days when water was transported by ox carts.

So while 唐人街 (Tángrénjiē) means “Chinatown” in general (used in most countries in the world), locals and official signs in Singapore always say 牛车水.

Don’t forget to grab a bolo bun (classic bun with butter) at Champion Bolobun while you wander.

6. Salted Egg Chicken: A Must-Try Singapore Dish

For $9.80 SGD, I got salted egg chicken rice with a lemon iced tea. Creamy, sweet, savory, and with just a hint of spice. This dish is addictive . Singaporeans swear by it and trust me, you’ll want seconds.

7. Take a Breather and Enjoy Art at the National Gallery Singapore

If you need a break from the heat, the National Gallery Singapore offers a peaceful and inspiring escape. Filled with stunning Southeast Asian art and housed in beautifully designed architecture that’s perfect for photos, it’s the ideal place to relax indoors while soaking up art and culture.

8. Bugis: Energy, Snacks, and Streetwear Vibes in Singapore

You can wander through Bugis Street Market for affordable fashion, Singapore souvenirs, and snacks. The area’s mix of history, culture, and youthful energy makes it a favorite hangout for both locals and tourists.

9. Enjoy Shopping Scene at Orchard Road

Even if you’re not buying anything, strolling down Orchard Road feels good. It is one of Singapore’s most famous shopping street, lined with luxury boutiques, flagship stores, and trendy malls. Beyond shopping, you’ll find cozy cafés, stylish restaurants, and vibrant street scenes that make it perfect for people-watching. Whether you’re here to shop or just soak in the city’s energy, Orchard Road captures the modern heartbeat of Singapore.

10. End the Day and truly Enjoy Singapore with the Spectra Light Show

End your day with something unforgettable — the Spectra Light & Water Show at Marina Bay Sands. It’s free, it’s beautiful, and it’s the perfect way to wrap up your night.

Singapore may be known for luxury, but it’s also full of experiences that are rich in culture, beauty, and flavor. not necessarily in price.
